Recently, the USSF conducted a Regional "Pro" Clinic in Dallas, Texas. The clinic is part of the U.
S. Soccer Federation's National Program for Referee Development. It is open to National
Referees, National Candidates, Grade 5 referees who may be future National Candidates, and
State Assessors. The purpose of this clinic is to ensure that all of our professional referees have
a consistent approach to their calls in matches at the professional level.
Director of Advanced and International Referee Development Esse Baharmast, and Director of
National Assessments, David McKee were the instructors for the clinic.

Jack Damrill Selected to Officiate at the
2007 U.S. Youth National Championships

Oklahoma City’s Jack Damrill was selected to referee at the 2007 U.S. Youth National
Championships, July 24-29 at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, TX, home of the MLS’s FC Dallas.

Damrill was chosen from nearly 200 referee’s at the recently completed 2007 Region III
Southern Regionals at South Lakes Park in Oklahoma City, June 28 – July 4.

As a result of being selected the top referee at the Regional Tournament, Jack was awarded
the top game, the U19 Boys Regional Final game between two-time defending National
Champion Dallas Texans Red and Kendall Soccer Coalition of Florida.

“It is quite an honor,” Damrill said. “I’m overwhelmed at being chosen to do the U19 boys final
and the selection to Nationals.”

In recent years, Damrill joins Matt Garrett, Jonathon Johnson and Doug Malficini as the only
other state referee’s to be selected to ref at the Youth Nationals.

“The intensity and pressure of these games in unreal,” Damrill said. “These are the best
players in the nation with several of these players on their respective age group U.S. National
teams.

“I’ve had so much help to get to where I am in a short amount of time,” he said. “From people
like Mike Pollock, Wayne Ewing, Joe Palmer and Paul Scott. Each of these men has helped me
tremendously.”

Damrill started referring in 2001 and is currently a 05 referee. He hopes to apply for his national
candidacy next year.

“It takes a lot to become a national referee,” Damrill said. “It should be everyone’s goal of
referring on the biggest stage they can.”

“Even if I don’t ever call a game in the MLS, the experience I’ve gained will only help me teach
the younger referee’s in the state become better.”

Oklahoma Referees Shine at Southern Regionals
   Despite the rain, mud, change of venues and a down right mess, 15 Oklahoma referees
shined at the recently completed Region III Southern Regionals at South Lakes Soccer Park in
Oklahoma City.

   Five Oklahoman’s were awarded Region III Championship games, while 9 others were on the
field for semifinal matches.

Among those refereeing final matches included:

Jack Damrill, referee for the U19 Boys’ Championship.
Tim Bickers, assistant referee for U18 Girls’ Championship;
Josh Hutchman, assistant referee for U14 Girls’ Championship;
Kooroush Azartash, assistant referee for U15 Boys’ Championship game;
Nate Hopkins, 4th official for the U18 Girls’ Championship;

Referee’s on matches for the semifinals included:

Michael Cap, referee, U16 boys;
Darron Killman, referee, U15 girls;
Jack Lee, assistant referee, U19 boys;
Michael Ooten, assistant referee, U16 boys;
Omeed Azapour, assistant referee, U14 girls;
Keith Ooten, assistant referee, U14 boys;
Tony Mensah, 4th official, U19 boys;
Larry Morgan, 4th official, U18 boys
Michael Young, 4th official, U15 boys;

Others in attendance, but having to leave early because of school included Zheila Azartash and
Joe Forler.

Assessor Bill Harn was awarded the U16 Girls’ Championship game. Other assessors in
attendance were Joe Palmer and Jason McEntyre. Wayne Ewing was Oklahoma’s Head of
Delegation.

“Everyone stepped up their performance for these regional games,” Ewing said. “What more
could I ask for.”

I am very proud of these referees, Michael Pollock stated.  Bill Pevarnik also stepped in on a U-18
Boys Center at the last minute.  Randy Jorgeson and Ahmad Talai also worked games due to a
referee missing a plane flight.

Volunteers jumped in whenever and wherever needed.  David Ooten worked around the clock as
Assistant Field Director.  Paris Sanders worked as assistant to Referee Assignor.  The
tournament was successful because of the tireless effort of Wayne Ewing working with
Volunteers.  Bill Aven and Gail Nash cooked everyday (Gail does not understand “Get out of the
rain”).  Bob Bray and Kenny Weisbrod were there to lead the “Cart” drivers at every minute.  The
list of volunteers goes on-and-on and without their efforts this tournament would not have been
as successful as it was.
